10 July 2014 - Oh Canada!

Dear Friends and Family,

Its has been quite the start to the great adventure in Vancouver, Canada. 6 months have passed and it feels like we have crammed a heck of a lot into a very short space of time.

With a wave of new releases, news, interviews and updates I thought it would be a great time to post a newsletter.

So where do I begin? ah yes, the internship at Fader Mountain Sound / The Farm Studios. This legendary place that was once the great Little Mountain Sound Studios, Where great music makers like Motley Crew, Metallica, Whitesnake, Van Halen, Bon Jovi, AC/DC and Aersosmith recorded monumentus peices of Rock and Roll History back in the day and now the current home of one of the best producers alive today GGGarth Richardson (whos previous credits include: Rage Against The Machine, The Melvins, Chevelle, Biffy Clyro, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mudvayne, Skunk Anansi, Kittie, Testiment etc) and his team and residents, Ben Kaplan (Mother Mother, Biffy Clyro, Mudvayne, Hedley, Galows, Atreyu) and other great and talented producers and engineers Winston Hauschild (at the time), Paul Boechler, Daniel Byrne, Shawn Cole, Kevin Kowal, Spencer Carsen, Brock McFarlane, Griffin Bargholz (at the time), Nygel Asselin and Scott Ternan. (Also a special mention to Nick Dettman over at the rock space, and my hard working fellow interns Andy Burns, Max Slade and Seth Stuve)

As you can probably tell from the long list of excellence above it is a place where great music lives and frequents, hence my desire to be around it as much as possible. The two and a half months I was there I learnt a great deal about how things run in North America, and with all the travels we have been fortunate to experience in the last few years living and working abroad - the perspective gained along the way put many things in beautiful context. - This dude from the southern tip of Africa had a lot to take in, and boy did I!

I got to meet some of my favourite engineers and producers and occasionally watch them work with some great bands, but unfortunately not all good things last forever.

I hope to spend more time in the future with some of the great people I met at Fader Mountain, and I am very grateful for the experience. Thank you to all who saw me as part of the team.

With great projects in production with HOKUM, Revery, Boulevard Lights, Saints Method and a few other great bands, it was time to get back in the producers chair and make some music. I was lucky to find a great little spot to make some noise, on the East Village Side of Vancouver, a lovely place to be indeed. Introducing my new home base "The DeVille Recording Company"

This place has the rite kinda vibe - The building was built in the 30's and it was used to be a bowling alley the 60's and the wooden floors bare the marks and history. I have had a few sessions and jams with Brian O' Brien and Caracas (the band) and it is definitely the sort of place you can let loose in.

Along with moving into a new place I received a very warm welcome to Vancouver in an interview with NXeW, a huge thank you to Jenn Ashton. Read the full interview below:
